iris® Visible Spectrophotometer with Method Identification via Barcode Reader - HI802
The Iris HI802 is HANNA's new spectrophotometer, capable of measuring all wavelengths of visible light, offering unparalleled accuracy and versatility. With a spectral range from 340 nm to 900 nm and up to 250 available methods, it is ideal for a wide range of applications, including pre-dosed vial reagents for wastewater and drinking water analysis. The instrument has been enhanced with important features that improve operational efficiency and analysis accuracy:
- Barcode Reader for automatic method recognition
- Electronic Zeroing
- Cuvette Rotation
- Average Function
Barcode Reader for Automatic Method Recognition
- A barcode reader is included for identifying all pre-dosed reagents in 13 mm vials.
- Cuvette Rotation Mechanism: The instrument rotates the vial during measurement.
- During the rotation, 256 absorbance readings are taken!
Electronic ZERO
The ZERO value is automatically stored and remains valid for all subsequent measurements, even if the method is changed or the instrument is turned off.
Simply insert the vial and press READ. The instrument will automatically recognize the method and perform the measurement directly.
Performing a new ZERO is a very simple operation and is recommended when:
- A new batch of reagents is used (as per ISO standards)
- The sample is highly turbid or colored
Cuvette Rotation
- The instrument performs an initial rotation to read the barcode and identify the method/batch.
- It then carries out an additional rotation to perform absorbance readings.
- A series of readings is taken throughout the second phase of rotation, ensuring accurate and consistent results.
AVERAGE Function
The instrument performs 256 absorbance readings.
- Outliers, both high and low (indicated in orange on the graph), are discarded. These anomalies could be caused by factors such as glass imperfections or fingerprints.
- The remaining values are averaged, and the final result is displayed for accurate and reliable measurements.
Exceptional Repeatability in Analyses
The vial rotation system, combined with the Average Function, ensures unprecedented precision, delivering maximum repeatability in analyses.
- Accuracy: Results closely match the true value of the sample.
- Even inexperienced operators can achieve perfect analysis results with ease.
Optical System with Split-Beam Technology
The optical system is a critical component of any spectrophotometer. Our R&D team has carefully selected only the highest-quality components to create a portable instrument with unrivaled performance. While many spectrophotometers use single-beam systems, the HI802 employs split-beam technology, which compensates for light fluctuations to ensure a more stable signal.
This advanced technology provides:
- More accurate and repeatable measurements, minimizing errors caused by changes in ambient light.
- Precision results even in suboptimal laboratory conditions.
By incorporating a high-quality optical system, the HI802 ensures reliable and precise measurements every time.
No Measurement Conversions Needed
Our spectrophotometer conveniently displays results directly in the desired measurement units. The Iris offers three measurement modes tailored to your needs:
- Transmittance
Absorbance
Concentration
This flexibility enhances ease of use and adaptability to various applications.
Up to 250 Methods
The HI802 offers unmatched versatility with support for up to 250 methods, divided into the following categories:
Barcode Methods
- 29 pre-dosed vial methods with barcodes for automatic method recognition.
Factory Methods
- Up to 150 factory methods.
- 103 pre-programmed methods, which can be updated via a USB key.
User Methods
- Up to 100 user-defined methods, allowing you to create new methods using the AVERAGE reading function.
Favorite Methods
- Quick access to your most frequently used methods for greater efficiency.
System Check
When the instrument is powered on, a system check is performed to ensure the light source is functioning correctly and the optical system is calibrated. This check includes a "zero" light scan. If any issues are detected, the instrument will display a warning.
Thanks to this feature, you can rely on accurate measurements and be confident that the instrument is functioning properly, eliminating the need for additional testing.
Memory for Up to 9,999 Measurements
The instrument can store up to 9,999 measurements. Data can be easily transferred to a PC or Mac in CSV or PDF format. No software is required—just plug in a USB drive and export the data.
Saving files in PDF format ensures that the data cannot be altered, providing enhanced integrity. You can also program an ID for the instrument and an ID for the sample, which will be saved alongside the measurements for better traceability.
Dual Power Supply
This instrument features two power sources:
- It can be powered via the standard electrical network.
- It is also equipped with a long-lasting rechargeable lithium battery.
The battery allows for up to 8 hours of continuous operation or a maximum of 3,000 measurements. Additionally, the battery acts as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). This means that in case of a power outage, analysis can continue, and measurement data can still be saved.
Easily Portable for Field Use
- Compact size: The instrument has a small footprint, roughly the size of an A4 sheet.
- Battery-operated, making it ideal for on-the-go measurements.
Thanks to the Barcode Reader and Electronic Zeroing, it’s even more convenient to measure a range of important parameters in the field, including:
- Suspended Solids (SST)
- Nitrates
- Ammonium
- Phosphorus
- Chlorine
- And many others.
This portability and ease of use make it an excellent choice for field applications.
